Black Velvet Cinema is a tailored home theatre experience crafted within a volume-built home, where creative problem-solving and custom design were key. Originally earmarked as a cinema space during the build, the client engaged us post-construction — presenting challenges in access and integration that we expertly navigated to deliver a premium outcome.

Designed for passionate gamers and movie enthusiasts, the room was engineered to combine performance, comfort, and discretion. All speakers and acoustic treatments were fully concealed, preserving a sleek aesthetic while ensuring cinematic-quality sound. A structural window was cleverly masked to maintain acoustic integrity and visual immersion.

The space features a high-performance Bowers & Wilkins in-wall speaker system, including in-wall subwoofers, seamlessly integrated into custom joinery. A bespoke lounge was built to suit the clients’ lifestyle, with a modular ottoman insert that transforms the sofa into a full-sized bed — perfect for extended gaming sessions or movie marathons.

A KNX-controlled lighting system adds to the mood, with colour-changing ambient lighting tailored to enhance the experience. All AV and control equipment was discreetly installed in an otherwise unused space beneath the staircase, maximising functionality without compromising design.

The client’s office computer was connected to the cinema, enabling seamless transitions between work, gaming, and entertainment — a true multimedia hub wrapped in the plush, dramatic tones of its namesake.
